I love writing reviews so decided it was time I checked out the range of Logitech computer speakers. I already had a bit of knowledge on different speaker systems but there was more to speaker systems than meets the eye. I really took my time to get a lot of information about different ones and concluded that the Logitech Z-5500 sound system is one of the best on the market for its price.
THX-certified 5.1 speakers
Oh yes, everybody loves to see that THX certificate. Only a select few PC speaker systems have earned the THX certificate and this Logitech sound system is one of them! This certificate assures you that these speakers will not let you down because they accurately recreate the experience of a movie theatre.
Audio inputs for up to six devices
With this sound system you can enjoy quality surround sound from any digital or analog device. You can also plug-in up to 6 devices at the same time, I mean WoW. I can plug-in my PC, iPod, DVD Player and all my gaming consoles, what a superb convenience. One thing I really hated doing was to keep switching things around on my older sound system and this sound system will take away that annoyance. This sound system comes with one optical, one coax digital and four stereo inputs so you can’t go wrong if you have a lot of gear to plug-in.
These Logitech computer speakers also have a built-in receiver so that you can just plug your DVD player or whatever directly into the speakers, this is so important and many competing brands seem to leave this out, well done Logitech!
Wireless remote control
Why get distracted trying to fiddle around with audio controls when you can just use a convenient wireless remote? This wireless remote allows you to conveniently control the audio of up to 7 different sound sources from the comfort of your own chair.
Immersive Dolby digital and DTS 5.1 surround sound
This system incorporates Dolby digital and DTS technologies which are both well known for delivering superb multichannel audio. The Logitech Z-5500 delivers true 5.1 surround sound for your games, movies and more. This system also incorporates Dolby Pro Logic II which transforms your 2-channel stereo movies, music and games into a realistic 5.1 surround sound experience so you won’t be missing out on the surround sound experience.
Phase Plug drivers
Well what are Phase Plug drivers? In Logitechs own words Phase Plug drivers “give you even frequency response with clear high-end and rich mid-range tones.” This little bit of technology will have great positive effects on your sound.
505 watts of powerful performance
Having more power in a speaker system is important if you want to have loud sound. The more watts the louder the sound. With the Logitech Z-5500 5.1 speaker system you won’t have to hold back turning the speakers up as the sound it produces will still sound crisp and clear even at the max, this is what lets down many older speaker systems. This system also comes with Logitechs integrated digital equalization technology which will make sure the sound you hear is clear, accurate and balanced at all times.
10-inch Long-throw subwoofer
A long-throw subwoofer will produce deeper bass than that of a traditional subwoofer, it also can send the bass over a larger distance, hence the “long” in the name. The subwoofer also has a flared side port which will stop any port noise, this problem is usually found in most conventional subwoofers but Logitech have thought carefully about their design.
Size matters!
The subwoofer is 10 inches in size, which is big, many say that the bigger the subwoofer the louder they are, and the smaller they are the more puncher the subwoofer sounds. They both have their advantages and disadvantages but it depends on your personal preference. If I were to choose I would have a big subwoofer because I love to play games so explosions and gun fire would sound so much louder.
Versatile satellite speakers
Every single satellite speaker is able to stand on your desk(in many different positions!) but can also be wall mounted, this can’t get any easier as all you have to do is rotate the stands of the speakers themselves. You also have the option to remove the cloth grills covering the speakers if you want to give them the pro audio look.
Convenient digital control center
The Digital SoundTouch™ Control Center lets you change everything in your system from just this one control panel, you could also use the wireless remote. The control panel has a very slick and easy to use design and it is also not so big that you can’t put it anywhere.
How Much Should You Expect to Pay?
The Logitech Z-5500 5.1 speaker system is currently available on the Logitech website for $399.99 but you really shouldn’t be paying that much for this sound system. The cheapest we have seen it is on Amazon who are currently selling it for under $300 with free shipping.

Any complaints?
I found very few complaints for this pair of Logitech computer speakers, however, there was one common mistake consumers made which was to remove the screw on the back of one of the speakers. This will make it impossible to put the stand back on unless you rip the speaker apart, which will void your warranty. This can be rectified by simply not removing the screw.
